Ingredients

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup butter (for caramel)
- 2 cups chocolate chips (milk or dark)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking dish with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the all-purpose flour and salt until everything is combined. Press into the prepared dish and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- Combine the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until it simmers and bubbles gently for about 5-8 minutes.
- Pour the caramel over the cooled shortbread layer and spread it evenly. Let it set for about 30 minutes.
- While the caramel cools, melt the chocolate chips with vegetable oil until smooth.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until fully chilled and set.
- Lift the bars from the dish and cut into squares or rectangles.
Notes
Warm your knife under hot water for easily cut pieces without cracking the chocolate.
