  • Author: sara
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12-16 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

A nostalgic treat that brings family together through the joyful act of making and pulling taffy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Corn Syrup
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Butter
  • Flavoring Extracts (vanilla, peppermint, or others)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until combined.
  2. Cook Over Medium Heat: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves completely.
  3. Bring to a Boil: Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
  4. Add Butter and Flavoring: Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the saucepan from heat and quickly add butter and your chosen flavor extract. Stir until incorporated.
  5. Cool and Prepare to Pull: Pour the mixture onto a buttered marble slab or parchment paper and let it cool for just a few minutes until safe to handle.
  6. Pull the Taffy: Once it’s cool enough, grease your hands with butter and start pulling the taffy. Stretch it, fold it, and repeat until it turns glossy and lightens in color.
  7. Cut and Wrap: Once you achieve the desired consistency, shape the taffy into ropes and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Wrap them in wax paper to keep them fresh.

Notes

Monitor the temperature accurately to avoid soft or hard taffy. Grease hands before pulling to prevent sticking.
