Description
A nostalgic treat that brings family together through the joyful act of making and pulling taffy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup Corn Syrup
- 1 cup Water
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- Flavoring Extracts (vanilla, peppermint, or others)
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, mix granulated sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Stir until combined.
- Cook Over Medium Heat: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Bring to a Boil: Allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 250°F (hard ball stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Add Butter and Flavoring: Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the saucepan from heat and quickly add butter and your chosen flavor extract. Stir until incorporated.
- Cool and Prepare to Pull: Pour the mixture onto a buttered marble slab or parchment paper and let it cool for just a few minutes until safe to handle.
- Pull the Taffy: Once it’s cool enough, grease your hands with butter and start pulling the taffy. Stretch it, fold it, and repeat until it turns glossy and lightens in color.
- Cut and Wrap: Once you achieve the desired consistency, shape the taffy into ropes and cut them into bite-sized pieces. Wrap them in wax paper to keep them fresh.
Notes
Monitor the temperature accurately to avoid soft or hard taffy. Grease hands before pulling to prevent sticking.
