Description

Indulge in rich, creamy homemade chocolate ice cream that brings joy and nostalgia to every scoop.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Whole Milk
  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 4 Egg Yolks
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Begin by whisking the sugar, cocoa powder, and salt together in a saucepan. Gradually add in the milk and cream, stirring until well-combined.
  2. Heat the Mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the mixture is warm but not boiling.
  3. Temper the Eggs: In a bowl, beat the egg yolks. Slowly, pour in a bit of the warm mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously.
  4. Combine: Once combined, pour the egg yolk mixture back into the saucepan. Continue to cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  5. Chill the Mixture: Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  6. Churn: Place the chilled mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to manufacturer’s instructions.
  7. Freeze: Transfer to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours until firm.
  8. Serve: Scoop into bowls, garnish with chocolate shavings or fresh fruit, and enjoy!

Notes

Allow the mixture to cool completely before churning for the best texture. Experiment with add-ins like peppermint or toffee for variation.
