Description

A comforting and flavorful Tuna Pasta Sauce, perfect for family dinners and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Pasta (penne or spaghetti)
  • Canned tuna (packed in oil)
  • Fresh garlic
  • Olive oil or butter
  • Tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • Dried oregano
  • Fresh basil or parsley
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Optional vegetables (sautéed mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions in salted water until al dente. Reserve about a cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil or butter. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Add drained canned tuna to the skillet and break it up gently with a spatula.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir in dried herbs, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce bubble for a few more minutes.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. Gradually add reserved pasta water to achieve desired consistency.
  7. Sprinkle in freshly grated Parmesan, stirring until melted.
  8. Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs and additional cheese if desired.

Notes

This dish is versatile; feel free to substitute tuna with chickpeas or beans for a vegetarian option. Watch garlic closely to avoid burning.
