Ingredients
- Pasta (penne or spaghetti)
- Canned tuna (packed in oil)
- Fresh garlic
- Olive oil or butter
- Tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- Dried oregano
- Fresh basil or parsley
- Red pepper flakes
- Parmesan cheese
- Optional vegetables (sautéed mushrooms, spinach, cherry tomatoes)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions in salted water until al dente. Reserve about a cup of pasta water before draining.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil or butter. Sauté minced garlic until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add drained canned tuna to the skillet and break it up gently with a spatula.
- Pour in tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in dried herbs, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce bubble for a few more minutes.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce, tossing to coat. Gradually add reserved pasta water to achieve desired consistency.
- Sprinkle in freshly grated Parmesan, stirring until melted.
- Serve warm, garnished with fresh herbs and additional cheese if desired.
