A flavorful Thai dish featuring tender chicken, aromatic Thai basil, and colorful vegetables, perfect for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound boneless chicken (breast or thighs), cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 23 fresh or dried red chilies, chopped
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons peanut or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients: Chop and measure out the chicken, basil, garlic, chilies, and veggies.
  2. Heat your pan: In a large skillet or wok, heat the oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  3. Cook the chicken: Add the chicken, season lightly with salt and pepper, and sauté for 4-5 minutes until no longer pink.
  4. Add garlic and chilies: Toss in the minced garlic and chopped chilies, cooking for an additional minute.
  5. Vegetable time: Introduce the bell peppers and onions, sautéing for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  6. Sauce it up: Pour in the soy sauce and a splash of fish sauce, letting everything simmer for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Finish with basil: Toss in the fresh Thai basil, stirring until the leaves wilt slightly, about 30 seconds.
  8. Serve and savor: Dish it out over jasmine rice or noodles.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute chicken with tofu. Feel free to experiment with other vegetables such as zucchini or carrots.
