Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  3. In a large bowl, mix sugar and oil, then add eggs one at a time, blending well. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost the cooled cakes with cream cheese or buttercream frosting and decorate for Halloween.

Notes

Use room-temperature ingredients for better mixing and always cool the cake fully before frosting.
