- 1 1/2 cups pretzels, crushed
- 1 package chocolate cake mix
- 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine cake mix, crushed pretzels, and ranch seasoning.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, oil, and buttermilk until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined.
- If using, fold in chocolate chips.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a sprinkle of ranch seasoning.
- Assemble by placing one layer on a platter, spreading frosting, then topping with the second layer and frosting the top and sides.
- Finish with crushed pretzels and ranch seasoning on top before serving.
Notes
Room temperature ingredients yield better results. Don’t rush the cooling process for perfect frosting application.
