Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups pretzels, crushed
  • 1 package chocolate cake mix
  • 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine cake mix, crushed pretzels, and ranch seasoning.
  3. In another bowl, whisk eggs, oil, and buttermilk until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, and stir until just combined.
  5. If using, fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10–15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. For the frosting, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, and a sprinkle of ranch seasoning.
  9. Assemble by placing one layer on a platter, spreading frosting, then topping with the second layer and frosting the top and sides.
  10. Finish with crushed pretzels and ranch seasoning on top before serving.
