Description

A comforting and flavorful slow-cooked Mongolian beef dish that brings warmth and joy to weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, sliced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • Green onions, sliced for garnish
  • Rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Slice the flank steak against the grain into thin strips.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and fresh ginger until well blended.
  3. Optionally, sear the beef in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned.
  4. Place the beef in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over it, stirring to coat.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  6. Toward the end of cooking, mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and stir it into the slow cooker to thicken for about 15 minutes.
  7. Serve over rice or noodles and sprinkle with sliced green onions.

Notes

For a healthier option, use lean cuts of beef or low-sodium soy sauce. Frozen beef may require additional cooking time.
