Description
A delightful stuffing that combines day-old bread, aromatic herbs, earthy mushrooms, and crunchy toasted nuts, making it a perfect complement to any Thanksgiving feast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 cups day-old bread (sourdough and French bread mix), torn into pieces
- 1 cup cremini or button mushrooms, chopped
- 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, toasted
- 1/2 cup onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Prepare your ingredients by tearing the bread into bite-sized pieces and letting them dry overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spread the nuts on a baking sheet and toast for about 10 minutes.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and add onions. Cook until translucent, about 5 minutes, then add garlic and mushrooms, sautéing until softened.
- Stir in the chopped sage and thyme, mixing well.
- In a large bowl, combine the bread, sautéed vegetables, and toasted nuts. Pour in the broth and mix until moistened. Add beaten eggs and gently fold.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake for 30-40 minutes until golden brown on top.
Notes
Use stale bread for better absorption and avoid overmixing the ingredients to maintain a light texture.
