Description

A rich and creamy potato dish that brings together the comforting flavors of Gruyère and sharp cheddar, layered perfectly for a family favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes
  • 2 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese, grated
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • Fresh thyme or parsley, for garnish
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Wash and slice the potatoes thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Sauté the garlic in butter over low heat until aromatic.
  4. In a saucepan, combine the cream, sautéed garlic, salt, pepper, and herbs. Heat until warmed through.
  5. Layer the sliced potatoes in a buttered baking dish, pouring the creamy mixture over each layer.
  6. Sprinkle cheese generously between layers and top with remaining cheese.
  7. Bake uncovered for about 45-50 minutes until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  8. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Be careful not to burn the garlic while sautéing. Adjust baking time as necessary depending on your oven.
