- Knead the Dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth. Shape into a ball and place in a greased bowl, covering it with a towel.
- Let It Rise: Allow to rise in a warm spot for about 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.
- Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, mix room-temperature butter, cinnamon, sugar, and a dash of cocoa powder.
- Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the dough, then roll it out into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
- Add Filling and Roll: Spread the filling evenly, then roll tightly into a log.
- Cut the Rolls: Cut into 12 pieces and place in a greased baking dish.
- Rise Again: Cover and let rise for about 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F and bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the Frosting: While cooling, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, adding vanilla extract.
- Frost: Drizzle cream cheese frosting over warm cinnamon rolls and serve.
