Description

A nostalgic and creamy dessert featuring layers of rich custard, fresh bananas, and fluffy whipped cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 2 cups whipped cream

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch, and a pinch of salt. Gradually whisk in whole milk over medium heat until smooth. Bring to a gentle simmer, continually whisking, until the mixture thickens, around 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, beat the egg yolks. Gradually incorporate a small amount of the hot milk mixture into the yolks, whisking constantly to avoid scrambling. Combine the egg mixture back into the saucepan with the pudding.
  3. Continue cooking on low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract.
  4. Layer vanilla wafers at the bottom of your dish. Follow with sliced bananas and a generous portion of pudding. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of pudding.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and cool in the refrigerator for at least four hours.
  6. Top with freshly whipped cream before serving and garnish with extra banana slices or crushed vanilla wafers.

Notes

For best results, use firm, ripe bananas and let the pudding chill thoroughly to develop flavors.
