Description

A heartwarming meat pie filled with seasoned ground beef, earthy mushrooms, and aromatic herbs, all enclosed in a flaky, golden crust.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or lamb/chicken)
  • 1 cup mushrooms (cremini or button), chopped
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 1 cup carrots, diced
  • 1 cup peas
  • 2 pie crusts (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 egg, for egg wash

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat and sauté onions and garlic until soft.
  2. Add ground meat, cooking until browned.
  3. Incorporate mushrooms and cook until they soften.
  4. Add thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Pour in broth and simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Mix in diced carrots and peas, cooking until just tender.
  6. Prepare pie crust; roll out and line the pie dish.
  7. Allow filling to cool slightly, then pour it into the crust. Cover with another layer, crimp edges, and make slits for steam to escape.
  8. Brush with egg wash and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
