Description
A delightful casserole combining crispy edges and gooey centers, topped with juicy blueberries, perfect for family breakfasts or brunch gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices stale bread (challah or brioche)
- 2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen)
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk (or half-and-half)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions
- Prepare the bread by cutting it into cubes, about one inch in size.
- Make the custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Combine the bread cubes in the custard mixture, ensuring each piece is well-coated and allowing it to soak for at least 15 minutes.
- Add the blueberries, gently folding them into the mixture.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and press down slightly with a spatula.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 40-45 minutes until golden brown and puffy.
- Cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with maple syrup.
Notes
For a richer flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or using almond/oat milk for dairy-free options. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to three days.
