Description
A nostalgic and crispy delight, this homemade popcorn chicken is perfect for family dinners or festive gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb boneless chicken (breast or thighs)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs (beaten)
- Vegetable or peanut oil (for frying)
Instructions
- Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces, about the size of a quarter.
- Set up a breading station: one bowl for seasoned flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs if desired.
- Dip each chicken piece in the eggs, allowing excess to drip off, then coat in the seasoned flour.
- For a double coat, dip again in the egg and then in the flour.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until it sizzles when water is added.
- Fry the chicken in batches, cooking for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown.
- Remove cooked chicken and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
Notes
For gluten-free options, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour or a gluten-free blend. You can also use milk or buttermilk instead of eggs.
