Description
A delightful homemade apple pie filled with warm spices and sweet apples, perfect for fall gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 medium-sized apples (mix of Granny Smith and Fuji recommended)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust based on apple sweetness)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 pie crust (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp cornstarch or flour
Instructions
- Prepare the Crust: If making your own pie crust, mix flour with salt and cold butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water to form a dough and chill for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Prep the Filling: Peel and core the apples, slicing them into thin wedges. In a mixing bowl, combine apples with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
- Roll Out the Dough: Divide the chilled dough into two pieces. Roll one piece out to fit your pie pan, leaving an overhang.
- Fill the Pie: Pour the apple mixture into the crust, sprinkle cornstarch on top.
- Add the Top Crust: Roll out the second piece of dough, cover the filling, and cut slits for ventilation. Crimp the edges to seal.
- Bake to Perfection: Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F (220°C), then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) for 30-45 minutes.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool for at least an hour before slicing.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
