Description
A delightful twist on classic cinnamon rolls with spooky colors and seasonal spices, making them perfect for Halloween celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice (optional)
- Food coloring (orange and black)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- Extra milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a bit of sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy. In another bowl, whisk together flour, melted butter, and sugar. Mix in the yeast mixture and eggs. Knead until smooth, then let rise until doubled.
- Mix the Filling: Combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and pumpkin spice in a bowl. Optionally, add chopped nuts.
- Roll and Fill: Roll out the dough, spread softened butter, and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Shape the Rolls: Roll the dough tightly into a log, slice into rounds, and place in a greased baking dish to rise again.
- First Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the Glaze: Mix powdered sugar with milk until desired consistency and color with food dye.
- Decorate and Enjoy: Drizzle the colored glaze over the cooled rolls, adding sprinkles as desired.
Notes
Knead the dough gently to avoid toughness. Use an oven thermometer to ensure even heating, and consider adding a pan of water for moisture.
