Description
Delightfully spooky cinnamon rolls with a blood-red icing, perfect for Halloween celebrations.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
- 1/4 cup cherry juice
- Red food coloring
- Chocolate eyes for decoration
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Mix in the melted butter, sugar, and eggs. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms, then knead until smooth (5-7 minutes).
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick and spread the cinnamon filling evenly. Roll tightly from one long side to the other.
- Slice the roll into 12 pieces and place them in a greased baking dish, allowing space between each piece. Cover and let rise for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- For the icing, beat cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, cherry juice, and red food coloring in a bowl until smooth.
- Once the rolls have cooled slightly, spread the icing over the top and add chocolate eyes for decoration.
