Description

Delicious homemade onion fritters that bring warmth and joy, perfect as appetizers, side dishes, or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large Onions (yellow or sweet)
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Baking powder
  • 1 cup Milk (or buttermilk for richness)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Finely chop the onions and let them sit for a moment to enhance their flavor.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and seasonings. Create a well in the center and crack the egg into it. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  3. Fold in the chopped onions gently, ensuring they’re coated with the batter.
  4. In a large skillet, heat a few tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Remove from the skillet and let drain on paper towels, sprinkling with salt while warm.
  7. Serve warm, preferably with a dipping sauce like ranch or garlic aioli.

Notes

Avoid overcrowding the skillet to ensure even cooking and a proper golden color. Patience is key for achieving the best texture.
