Description

A comforting and flavorful dish featuring button or cremini mushrooms marinated in a blend of balsamic vinegar, garlic, and fresh herbs, perfect for any meal or gathering.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb button or cremini mushrooms
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme or 2 teaspoons fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: crushed red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel and trim off tough stems if necessary.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic, thyme, salt, pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  3. Add the cleaned mushrooms to the marinade and toss gently to coat.
  4. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes; overnight for best flavor.
  5. To sauté, heat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook marinated mushrooms for about 5-7 minutes until tender and golden brown.
  6. To grill, skewer or place in a grill basket, cooking over medium heat for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  7. Serve warm or chilled, drizzled with remaining marinade and garnished with fresh herbs.

Notes

Ensure to not overcrowd the pan when cooking to prevent steaming. Letting the mushrooms marinate longer enhances flavor.
