- Breadcrumbs
- Milk or chicken broth (or oat milk for non-dairy)
- 1 Egg (or flaxseed meal as an egg substitute)
- 1 Onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Italian herbs
- Ketchup or BBQ sauce for topping
Instructions
- Prep the ingredients: Finely chop onion and garlic, sauté in olive oil until translucent.
- Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine ground meat, breadcrumbs, sautéed onions and garlic, milk, egg, and seasonings. Mix gently.
- Shape the loaf: Transfer the mixture to a loaf pan or shape it in the crockpot.
- Add the topping: Spread your chosen glaze over the top.
- Cook low and slow: Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 4-5 hours until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (for beef) or 165°F (for turkey).
- Let it rest: If possible, let the meatloaf rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
- Serve and enjoy: Slice and serve with sides like mashed potatoes or sautéed veggies.
Notes
Experiment with flavorings and enjoy creative toppings. Letting the meatloaf rest before slicing helps retain juices.
