Description

A rich and comforting bisque that combines tender shrimp, sweet crab meat, and a creamy broth, perfect for chilly evenings.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound large raw shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup fresh lump crab meat
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 cup seafood broth
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 3 cups seafood broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh thyme and parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Squeeze of fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, sauté until translucent.
  2. Add shrimp and cook until pink, then remove and set aside.
  3. Deglaze the pot with seafood broth, scraping up brown bits.
  4. Stir in flour to create a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  5. Gradually pour in seafood broth and heavy cream while whisking.
  6. Add herbs, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if desired.
  7. Simmer for 10-15 minutes to blend flavors.
  8. Fold back in shrimp and crab, warm through for 5 minutes.
  9. Add lemon juice; adjust seasoning as needed.
  10. Ladle into bowls, garnish with herbs, and serve warm.

Notes

For added luxury, drizzle with truffle oil before serving. Can substitute lobster for crab if desired.
