Description
Deliciously soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with a creamy cream cheese mixture, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk, warmed
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix warm buttermilk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until bubbly, about 5–10 minutes.
- Gradually add flour, eggs, and softened butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing softened cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
- Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into equal slices, about 1–1.5 inches wide.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again for about 30 minutes or until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for about 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for a simple glaze.
- Once out of the oven, let the rolls cool for a few minutes before drizzling them with the glaze.
Notes
For a different twist, try adding nuts or chocolate chips to the filling. These rolls can be frozen before the second rise or after baking.
