Description

Deliciously soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with a creamy cream cheese mixture, perfect for breakfast or a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup buttermilk, warmed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix warm buttermilk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit until bubbly, about 5–10 minutes.
  2. Gradually add flour, eggs, and softened butter. Mix until a sticky dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While the dough rises, prepare the filling by mixing softened cream cheese, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  5. Once the dough has risen, gently punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4-inch thick.
  6. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  7. Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into equal slices, about 1–1.5 inches wide.
  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise again for about 30 minutes or until puffy.
  9. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for about 25–30 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for a simple glaze.
  11. Once out of the oven, let the rolls cool for a few minutes before drizzling them with the glaze.

Notes

For a different twist, try adding nuts or chocolate chips to the filling. These rolls can be frozen before the second rise or after baking.
