Description
A heartwarming stuffing featuring the tartness of cranberries and crispness of apples, perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 crusty baguette or rustic bread, cubed
- 2 cups fresh cranberries (or dried if preferred)
- 2 Granny Smith apples, cubed
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 1 cup celery, chopped
- 2 tablespoons fresh sage, chopped (or dried)
- 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, chopped (or dried)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
Instructions
- Prepare the Ingredients: Cube the bread and let it dry out for a few hours or overnight.
- Sauté Aromatics: Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté onions and celery until golden, about 5-7 minutes. Add apples and cook for another 3-5 minutes.
- Mix in Herbs and Cranberries: Stir in herbs, cranberries, and season with salt and pepper. Cook for an additional few minutes.
- Combine with Bread: In a large bowl, mix the sautéed mixture with the dried bread cubes. Add enough broth to moisten the stuffing, folding gently.
- Bake: Transfer to a greased casserole dish and bake uncovered at 350°F (175°C) for 30-40 minutes until golden brown.
- Enjoy: Serve warm alongside your favorite roasted meats or as a main dish at the holiday table.
Notes
For a crispy top, broil the stuffing for the last few minutes of baking. Allow resting time before serving to enhance flavor.
