- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and yeast. Warm the milk until it’s just lukewarm, then whisk in the eggs and melted butter. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- While dough is rising, mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Melt butter in a separate dish for the filling.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll into a rectangle. Brush with melted butter, sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture, and roll tightly.
- Place rolled dough seam-side down in a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
Try adding nuts or using brown sugar for a twist. This bread is best served fresh, but can be stored for 2-3 days at room temperature.
