Description

Delightful and nostalgic sugar cookies, perfect for holiday celebrations, with a buttery base and a hint of vanilla.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: Frostings, sprinkles, or edible glitter for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare your workspace by gathering all ingredients and tools. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Gradually add to the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
  6. Shape the dough into small balls, flatten slightly on the baking sheet, and decorate as desired.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden. Allow to cool.
  8. Decorate with icing or sprinkles, or enjoy plain!

Notes

For vegan options, substitute a flax egg for the egg and use coconut oil instead of butter. You can also get creative with different frostings and sprinkles for decoration.
