Description
Delightful and festive Christmas Sugar Cookies that are perfect for decorating and sharing with loved ones during the holidays.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a mixing bowl, combine room temperature butter and granulated sugar. Beat until light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Mix in the eggs, one at a time, incorporating the vanilla extract until everything is well-blended.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients: Slowly fold the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined—be careful not to overmix!
- Chill the dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and let it chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat and prepare baking sheets: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Shape and bake: Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick, then cut out your favorite shapes. Place them on the baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden.
- Cool and decorate: Let them cool completely before decorating with icing and sprinkles.
Notes
For a creative twist, feel free to add different flavorings like almond or orange zest to the dough.
