A family favorite rich chocolate cake layered with creamy caramel and crunchy pecans, perfect for any gathering.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup butter (for caramel)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream (for caramel)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry mixtures, alternating with milk.
- Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
- Prepare the caramel by heating brown sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan until smooth and bubbling.
- Assemble the cake by layering with caramel sauce, and spreading chocolate frosting on top and sides.

Notes
For a gluten-free version, substitute all-purpose flour with almond flour. For vegan, replace eggs with flax eggs and butter with coconut oil.
