Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup brown sugar (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (for caramel)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cream softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Add eggs one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  5. Combine the wet and dry mixtures, alternating with milk.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  8. Prepare the caramel by heating brown sugar, butter, and cream in a saucepan until smooth and bubbling.
  9. Assemble the cake by layering with caramel sauce, and spreading chocolate frosting on top and sides.

Notes
