Description
Deliciously buttery scones filled with chocolate chips and a hint of coffee, perfect for breakfast or tea time.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee or espresso powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut cold butter into dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Dissolve coffee in heavy cream and pour into the dry mix; stir until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips gently.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface, pat into a 1-inch thick circle, and cut into 8 wedges.
- Place on baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
For a sweeter version, consider adding vanilla extract or cinnamon. Chilling the dough for 20 minutes before baking can enhance the flaky texture.
