Description
A comforting pie filled with the sweet flavors of Vidalia onions and sharp cheddar cheese, perfect for family gatherings and potlucks.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 Vidalia onions, sliced
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 pie crust
- Fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley), to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- If using a store-bought crust, place it in your pie pan. If making your own, roll it out and press it into the pan, trimming any excess.
- Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, and cheddar cheese. Add in the sautéed onions, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to taste.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared crust, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing different cheeses or using fresh herbs. Let the pie cool slightly after baking to help with slicing.
