Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh mushrooms (cremini and shiitake recommended)
- 2 medium sweet onions (such as Vidalia or yellow)
- 1 baguette or artisan bread
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh thyme or rosemary to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Your Ingredients: Slice onions and chop mushrooms into bite-sized pieces.
- Caramelize the Onions: In a skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add onions with a pinch of salt, reduce heat and cook until golden brown (20-30 minutes).
- Sauté the Mushrooms: Add mushrooms to the skillet, increase heat, and cook until tender and liquid evaporates (5-7 minutes). Stir in thyme or rosemary.
- Toast the Bread: Slice bread, drizzle with olive oil, and toast in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes.
- Assemble Your Crostini: Spoon the onion and mushroom mixture on each toasted slice, sprinkle with herbs, salt, and pepper.
- Serve and Enjoy: Plate and serve warm.
Notes
For a vegan option, use plant-based butter. Adding cheese on top before serving can enhance the flavor.
