Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it rest for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In another bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until it forms a rough dough.
  3. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise until it doubles in size—about 1 hour.
  5. Punch the dough down, and divide it into golf ball-sized pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and twist it into a pretzel shape.
  6. Bring a large pot of water to a gentle boil and add baking soda. Drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove with a slotted spoon.
